Where my Mouth Is

Today we are going to add crucial cards to our portfolio. In the case where a player has a lone rookie card autograph in a given year, means these cards will have bigger fluctuations in value. This is because the simple Supply/Demand economic concept gets thrown off. Demand rises at a non-finite but an unequal positive and negative percentage, depending on how well the player is doing.

What?

Let’s say Jake Arrieta throws 2 no hitters in a row.

He has a lone auto rookie, 2007 Elite /949. This card will grow the fastest in value because the most collectors would then gravitate towards it. (Because we’re in an information driven hobby, to even be in this investment game, you have to realize every other person buying a card/player that you want ALSO has what they consider “overwhelming secret evidence,” which will result in the player going up in price. Point is, collectors know, 1st year/only auto is a formula for great things….

examples:

Robinson Cano Bowman Auto

Chase Utley Bowman Auto

Cole Hamels Bowman Auto

Zach Britton Elite Auto 07

Mike Moustakas 07 Elite Auto

Jair Jurrjens SOTF 2007 auto

This week we try to build  on what’s been an outright bizarre (lucky?) start with the portfolio buys….

Week 1:

Robbie Erlin: Gets up arrows across the whole new Beckett
Matt Moore- No hitter 36 hours later. #1 on BA Hot Sheet. cards explode
Dustin Ackley- Promoted to Seattle. 12 hours after I said it was immenent. cards rise.
Taijuan Walker- #4 on BA.com Hot Sheet- dominated with a 10k shutout where the press played it up. cards rose.
Ryan Lavarnway- Cards have doubled since the article.

So what came first, chicken or the egg?

Either way, let’s add 3 more cards to the portfolio.

2010 Bowman Platinum JONATHAN SINGLETON Green Refractor Auto /199 ($22)

2010 Elite Nick Castellanos Auto /819 ($25 for card in title, not pic)

2009 Elite Tyler Skaggs Autograph ($10)

And….1 more for the road: 2009 Bowman Retail Lonnie Chisenhall Auto ($4)

The portfolio will buy (5) of the Singletons, (5) of the Skaggs’, (6) of the Castellanos, and (10) of the super cheap Chisenhall Retail, as long is it stays under $4.

Keep your money anywhere you want it.  Have fun with cards over anything.
