Topps Announces Bryce Harper Rookie Card Plans

The highly-touted Bryce Harper made his much-anticipated Major League debut Saturday and he did not disappoint. The 19-year old hit a double into deep center and showed off his amazing throwing arm…a small glimpse of bigger things to come.

And while Harper was making his first impression, Topps, the exclusive producer of Bryce’s Autograph cards, was rigorously making adjustments to products to get his 2012 Rookie Card and Autographed Rookie Cards in ASAP.

Here’s what collectors and fans can look forward to:

Bowman Baseball – In addition to having an Autographed Prospect Card in retail and a Bowman Black Autograph in hobby, Bryce will be Lucky Redemption # 2! The card, which will be limited to 100, will feature Harper in the RC design and will include his Autograph.

Topps Series 2 – Harper will be card # 661, but because of limited timing the card will be short printed. In addition, there will be an autographed variation of this Rookie Card in both hobby and retail (image attached).

Topps Archives – Collectors will find redemptions in both hobby and retail for Bryce’s Fan Favorites autograph (on-card) and the young star will be included as a short printed base card (# 241).

Topps Tier One – 25 redemption cards will be inserted into packs for his “On the Rise” Autographed Rookie Card (on-card).

Allen & Ginter – A&G will include both Harper’s standard and mini base Rookie Cards at the regular rate. The product will also include Harper’s autograph. And for his Red Autograph limited to 10…those can be had by tearing open Rip Cards and finding the “Mystery Redemption” mini!

Complete Sets – Find Bryce’s 661 card, but with an all-new image.

And there’s more! Harper will have Autographed Rookie Cards in the remainder of all Topps 2012 MLB products!

With the 2012 NFL Draft underway and Colts and Redskins fans rejoicing after last night’s selections, Topps is pleased to offer a sneak peek at Andrew Luck’s and RGIII’s 2012 Topps Rookie cards (releasing early August).

Last night, the Indianapolis Star had Luck’s Rookie Card (attached) posted on their homepage of indystar.com. And this morning, the front page of the Washington Post has Griffin’s Rookie Card (image attached) on display.

Had a customer bust 20 cases of the 2012 Leaf Best of Basketball product last Friday. They also busted 1 case of the 2011 Panini Prime Cuts & 2 cases of the 2011 National Treasures FB. 1. 2011 Jose Campos Black Onyx COA Card Auto

Its all he has for now, but :

Yowsers. Add in that he’s a Yankee and just 19, and we have a new young superstar on our hands. Did “Onyx” finally score a coup?

2. 2010 Aflac Dylan Bundy Auto

Touching 99 on the radar gun in his 3rd start, it’s important to point out that he has yet to give up just one hit in those 3 outings, though abbreviated (average start: 3 innings). Still, this kid is the talk of major media outlets like the MLB Netwaork, and this card has rose overnight from $60 to $90+ and rising.

3. 2010 Elite Extra Edition Drew Smyly Autograph RC /799

Moving from $10 on April 10th to close to $20 today (with action on current auctions pointing to the card being worth even more), ASC has been touting Smyly since mid-last year. He beat out Jacob Turner for the 5th Tigers’ rotation spot, and these days, pitching for Detroit gives you a leg up on the competition, as most often, you’ll be pitching from ahead.

4. 2010 Bowman Sterling Taijuan Walker Auto

“Literally, this is the most awe-inspiring prospect I’ve ever seen.” Lowe’s character overstates everything on the show, but with Walker he would get it just right. This kid (19 years old, dominating in AA), as his stats show:

5. 2010 Elite Nick Castellanos Elite Auto /699

A 10-game hit streak started the season, and dramatic walk-offs have been the norm. Another card we have spotlighted for almost a year at ASC.com is starting to take off. An aspirations /100 auto just went for $22, and a few days later the base cards /699 had matched that. But one can easily see by searching active items, that this card is on the move, as most copies are already at $20 and over and have nearly a week left until the auctions end.

6. 2010 Stephen Strasburg Bowman Chrome Refractor Auto RC /500

7 days ago, this card could be had for $150; Now $200 is the norm, and still seems like a good buy as the “new” Stephen Strasburg did lose velocity, but amazingly, didn’t lose any effectiveness.

7. 2006 Bowman Sterling Mike Napoli Jersey Auto

Before Napoli got hot (3 HRs in 3 games), this card sold for $20, for a count of 2. Days later, $20 would get you just one copy. When are people going to realize the talent here? These cards have nowhere to go but up.

8. 2010 Elite Extra Tyler Austin RC Auto Autograph #/811

These routinely sold for under $10 apiece, but Austin, in the Yankees system, won Offensive Player of the Week in the Sally League and they have jumped almost 100% in the $17-$20 range. MILB.com reports:

With Dante Bichette Jr. commanding the bulk of the RiverDogs’ playing time at third base, Austin has had to adjust to the outfield in his first Sally League season. The 20-year-old has needed no adjustments at the plate, however — after going 0-for-4 in his Charleston debut, Austin has hits in seven straight games and at least two hits in each of his last five. After hitting six homers in 47 games last year, Austin has three in his last four outings, including a pair in Charleston’s 9-3 win at Rome on Thursday. With four hits on Saturday, the Georgia native’s .438 batting average leads the league and his 1.031 slugging percentage leads the Minors.
