Random Thoughts 1/28/14

-Kevin Durant did it again last night.  He finished with 41 points and hit 2 clutch shots at the end of the game.  He truly is on a tear unlike I’ve ever seen before.  I remember Kobe having a streak like this several years back, but I don’t remember it being quite like this.  He’s up to 31.3 points per game.  Carmelo has erupted lately and is still more than 4 points per game behind Durant.  I know I’ve touched on this before, but the remarkable thing about Durant is his efficiency this year.  His FG% is the highest its ever been.  His 3-point % is the 2nd highest of his career.  Durant has earned all the MVP talk.  If you haven’t watched him play this year, do yourself a favor and do that.

-Arizona and Syracuse continue to remain undefeated in college basketball.  Those are the two teams everyone is talking about right now.  However, don’t forget about Wichita State who is also undefeated.  According to the RPI, Wichita State has actually played a tougher schedule than Syracuse.  I will say that Wichita doesn’t have a big win this year.  They actually don’t have a single ranked opponent on their schedule right now.  I think Arizona and Kansas are actually the two best teams because they’ve been tested the most.  Arizona has beaten 3 teams that have been in the top 10 at some point this year (San Diego State, Duke and Michigan).  Kansas has 4 losses, but has played a crazy hard schedule.  Kansas has played a whopping 6 teams that were top 10 at some point (Duke, Florida, San Diego State, Villanova, Iowa State and Oklahoma State).  They’ll end up playing at least 10 games this year against a team that was ranked when they played them.  I also like Kansas because they are young and should only get better.  Can you tell that I’m excited about March Madness?

-I’m looking out my window and it’s snowing.  Not everyday that it snows in Georgia.  I know I can’t complain because so many of you have been hit so very hard this winter.  People will be freaking out here for sure though.  One inch of snow in Georgia is like New York getting hit with 3 feet.  People have already run out and bought all the essentials at the grocery store.  Crazy.  Here’s to everyone having a safe week during this weather.
